Recomendo vivamente, a quem vier para estas partes do Oriente em Agosto. Este ano o tema privilegiado do festival será a comemoração dos 100 anos de emigração japonesa para o Brasil, pelo que se assistirá a uma inusitada colaboração entre os anfitriões Kodo e o grupo afro-brasileiro convidado, os Olodum, de Salvador da Bahia. Paralelamente, haverá toda uma série de eventos e exposições – uma delas respeitante ao restauro ecológico do toki “;o) –, bem como workshops, onde os participantes poderão aprender os rudimentos de algumas das artes performativas do Japão e do Brasil. Lá estarei!

Earth Celebration (EC) is an international arts festival that seeks an alternative global culture through musical and cultural collaborations with artists from around the world. Hosts of the event Kodo invite musicians and performers they have met on their travels to come back to the rich natural paradise that is their home of Sado Island. The festival began in 1988 with the theme "Tataku" - to beat a rhythm, perhaps the most fundamental human act. Continuing under that same theme, this year marks EC’s 21st anniversary.

Every year, when people gather here from around the world, there is a spontaneous weaving of the inevitable and the coincidental, at times with unexpected happenings creating extraordinary synergism. Thus, as the years pass we have been left with a rich history of unique and memorable stories that have taken place in the garden of our Earth Celebration. When it all began, who could have imagined the celebration would continue for all this time?*
